How and when did you first realize you were experiencing hearing loss?
I had trouble at work hearing voice over our radio communication system, not being able to understand conversation in the same room that others could hear with no trouble!
Where did you first go for information or help? Why?
I went to a local audiologist that wanted to do more than I could afford at the time, but she did help explain how profound my loss really was.
Any other important things for others to consider?
Studies show that hearing loss and early onset Alzheimer’s is a related fact of being alienated from the sounds of everyday sounds that keep our minds aware of our surroundings.
What was your biggest concern about hearing aids? Did that turn out to be true?
I believed they would be more burden than help, and unsightly too! Boy was I wrong! I don’t even know I have them on and I hear like I did as a teenager.
How have hearing aids changed your life? How do they help you at your job, in your hobbies or at volunteer activities?
You can hear birds again, diagnose auto problems that you were unaware of, and the modern aids allow for directional observation.
What would you tell someone who is considering hearing aids?
Get them and get the nighttime dehydrating desiccant drying box to preserve the quality of your aids.
Which ReSound Hearing Aid(s) do you have?
Who is your hearing care professional?
Veterans Administration
