How and when did you first realize you were experiencing hearing loss?
I was diagnosed with hearing loss at 6 weeks old.
Where did you first go for information or help? Why?
My parents went to Children’s Hospital in Boston.
Based on your experience, do you have suggestions for others on how and where to start? Any other important things for them to consider?
It’s important to have a good relationship with your audiologist. Mine is always there to help me when I need it. My hearing aids make it possible for me to be in a “hearing world.”
What was your biggest concern about hearing aids? Did that turn out to be true?
I had no concerns. I was little when I got mine.
How have hearing aids changed your life? How do they help you at your job, in your hobbies or at volunteer activities?
My hearing aids make it so I can have friends, do school work, and live my life. Without them, I would not be able to communicate with people, have relationships, have a job or function in this world.
What would you tell someone who is considering hearing aids?
When my parents found out that I had hearing loss, it not only changed my life, but it changed everyone around me. Moments like those are important. They can change you for the better. It was a blessing in disguise because my hearing loss made me a better person. Hearing aids granted me the ability to be involved in the world. Without hearing aids, I’d be lost.
