How and when did you first realize you were experiencing hearing loss?
I watched TV and had to fill in the blanks as to what was being said. Even if I turned the volume up, many of the words were unclear. I got tired of asking my wife what was said on TV. I felt left out of many conversations because I hated asking people to repeat what they said. I also did not like having to take my wife to the doctor to make sure I did not misunderstand what the doctor said.
Where did you first go for information or help? Why?
EarCare on Merritt Island was the closest that accepted my new insurance, Aetna Insurance/Medicare.
Based on your experience, do you have suggestions for others on how and where to start? Any other important things for them to consider?
By going to EarCare, I could choose which hearing aid was best for me (personally) and still affordable with insurance. They gave me a choice and they followed up to make sure I was wearing the hearing aids and that I was hearing with clarity.
What was your biggest concern about hearing aids? Did that turn out to be true?
My biggest concern was the cost. Secondly, could they really deliver clarity. My insurance covered most of the cost and the clarity was life changing.
How have hearing aids changed your life? How do they help you at your job, in your hobbies or at volunteer activities?
I can understand what people say in general conversation including my wife. No wonder she yelled at me. The first week I had to tell her she did not have to yell anymore. They have a restaurant setting I use when the granddaughters are in the car and that setting works beautifully. It was especially helpful on our 2200-mile road trip to Ohio and back. I can watch TV and I have the volume turned down at least 2/3 numbers.
What would you tell someone who is considering hearing aids?
Do not be afraid to contact a hearing aid professional like EarCare. I am sure others have fine products but EarCare gives you a wider selection and affordable hearing aids that you can use. I like my ReSound hearing aids.
