How and when did you first realize you were experiencing hearing loss?
I’ve had hearing loss since I was a child. It became unmanageable when my Tinnitus got so loud I couldn’t handle it anymore. I’m a musician and music teacher. Hearing loss had made it difficult for my professional life and has interfered with music.
Where did you first go for information or help? Why?
My audiologist. I’ve had several. My family doctor suggested it.
Based on your experience, do you have suggestions for others on how and where to start? Any other important things for them to consider?
Find an audiologist that is right for you. Never let being hearing impaired get in the way of your daily life and the goals you want to achieve. You deserve it and you are worthy.
What was your biggest concern about hearing aids? Did that turn out to be true?
I never had many concerns. My biggest one now is getting to a point where they can’t help me. So far so good with ReSound. I’m on my second pair.
How have hearing aids changed your life? How do they help you at your job, in your hobbies or at volunteer activities?
It’s exhausting being hearing impaired. Not being able to participate in conversations and activities because I can’t hear is tiresome and can be depressing. I’m a musician and I need to be able to hear well. Hearing aids have helped me be able to communicate and do my job in Music.
What would you tell someone who is considering hearing aids?
Let all the vanity and pride go and just do it. Your life will improve immediately!! You deserve it and your loved ones deserve it.
