“Don’t ever be embarrassed of your hearing loss. If you have the ability, get to your ear doctor as soon as you can and explore your options.”
How and when did you first realize you were experiencing hearing loss?
I’ve had hearing problems since early childhood. I’ve always had confidence issues due to my lack of hearing. I just recently found my dream job working at my children’s school and not being able to hear what the students or teachers are saying makes it extremely difficult to do my job.
Where did you first go for information or help? Why?
My ear doctor. Besides my hearing loss I’ve developed pretty extreme tinnitus in both ears.
Based on your experience, do you have suggestions for others on how and where to start? Any other important things for them to consider?
Don’t ever be embarrassed of your hearing loss. If you have the ability, get to your ear doctor as soon as you can and explore your options.
What was your biggest concern about hearing aids? Did that turn out to be true?
What other people would say about them. I am still waiting on my insurance to approve my request, but I truly don’t think I will have any issues with them.
How have hearing aids changed your life? How do they help you at your job, in your hobbies or at volunteer activities?
I do not have them yet, but I am 100% positive they are going to change everything for me. Maybe I’ll even be able to take the closed captioning off the tv!
