“The ReSound LiNX 3D FINALLY provide the wonderful crisp, clear audio that I’ve hoped for all my life.”

How and when did you first realize you were experiencing hearing loss?

I have had lifelong moderate hearing loss. I ran coal-fired steam power plants for most of my career. Much of the running equipment exceeded 115 dB, and often hasty dashes from the Control Room were done without grabbing hearing protection.

Where did you first go for information or help? Why?

The last 20 years I had worn several types and models of hearing aids by Starkey and others. They helped, but not enough. The ReSound LiNX 3D with molded earpieces FINALLY provide the wonderful crisp, clear audio that I’ve hoped for all my life.

Based on your experience, do you have suggestions for others on how and where to start? Any other important things for them to consider?

I loved the ease and freedom of the BTE types, using just domes. This prevented the occlusion-related muffling of hearing of my own voice. However, Mike [hearing care professional] was correct in asking me to try the custom-molded earpiece, to prevent the loss associated with domes.

What was your biggest concern about hearing aids? Did that turn out to be true?

I just felt that they couldn’t resolve my hearing loss.

How have hearing aids changed your life? How do they help you at your job, in your hobbies or at volunteer activities?

I am reconnecting with family and friends. I no longer need to rely on my wife to be my “hearing aide.”

What would you tell someone who is considering hearing aids?

Get properly tested by a professional Audiologist, in person if possible. Ask questions of them before, during and after you receive your instruments.

In humid climates like mine, use a dry-storage device to remove moisture overnight.

Have your devices maintained by professionals.
