“Go for it. You have nothing to lose.”

Tell us everything that you would care to share about your hearing loss:

I spent over 26 years in the U.S. Air Force. No matter what kind of hearing protection you have, hearing loss is a fact when working around jet engines. Annual hearing tests showed my hearing loss started in the upper range and slowly crept to the middle range.

Based on your experience, do you have suggestions for others on how and where to start? Any other important things for them to consider?

Seek out qualified audiologists.

What was your biggest concern about hearing aids? Did that turn out to be true?

Appearance. I’ve tried the in-the-ear aids and the sound is muffled. I’ve tried over-the-ear aids and they are good until it rains, (I live in Seattle), or get sweaty exercising, then they stop working.
